Young Carers Project Worker
Fixed term contract
30 hours per week Monday to Thursday, with flexibility for role
£24,000 - £26,000 per annum FTE Pro rata, DOE and qualifications
Based at Wateringbury with local Kent travel
We are now looking for a Young Carers Project worker to work with our wonderful Young Carers service as part of a small team delivering varied activities for children and young people. The role is initially for a fixed term period of 6 months - to start as soon as possible.
The role
Duties include managing, developing and delivering a programme of fun and interesting activities such as youth sessions, workshops, day trips, and up to three group nights a week as well as providing support and guidance, and acting as a positive role model through one to ones and mentoring.
Group nights are held in Ditton, Sittingbourne and Maidstone.
The main hours for this role will incorporate support at two clubs and will be worked as:
Monday and Wednesday 12.00 to 7.00 pm, with Tuesday and Thursday working 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 pm. Flexibility will be required at times to support at other clubs and events.
Skills, abilities, experience
Our role would suit a caring and enthusiastic person with a keen interest in youth work and an understanding of young carer issues and their welfare. Good experience of working with children or young people, conducting assessments, designing and delivering activities is required along with knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety legislation around risk assessing safe events.
Highly effective communication skills with the confidence and professionalism to lead groups of Young Carers and manage volunteers is important. The right candidate will be able to work alone or as part of a small team so should be organised - able to manage their own time, administration and workload effectively.
Reliability and flexibility to work unsocial hours for club nights is essential as is a full Driving Licence and use of own car, willing and able to travel within Kent. An ability to handle sensitive issues sensitively and with emotional resilience is important, and a general level of physical fitness to meet the role requirements which includes everything from setting up and clearing venues, transporting equipment to and from clubs, to participating in various activities indoors, and outdoors especially during school holidays.
Qualifications required
A qualification in youth work such as a Level 3 in Children & Young People or equivalent is desirable or the willingness to work towards this.
