Fixed Term Contract- 6 Month Contract (April 2027)
Background of department/role
The Timetabling team are responsible for the management, development, and maintenance of the whole university timetable, and business owners of the timetabling system, Scientia (TechnologyOne). The candidate will be able to work as part of a team within a busy environment to help deliver the full annual academic timetable from data collection to allocating individual student timetables and ongoing maintenance, as well as supporting ad hoc room booking facilities, assessment timetabling and Welcome schedules.
The team demonstrates a strong technical understanding of our timetabling system and can work effectively with IT, systems/end/service users and process owners. They also collaborate with stakeholders across the university on the timetabling policies and collection of related systems and tools, being responsible for managing and maintaining them. The team also has responsibility for production of operational reports from timetabling for oversight and assurance of timetabling data quality. The team has responsibility for ensuring the data within the system is understood and effectively utilised by university staff through clear communication about relevant processes, system use and policy.
The Role
This role will work as part of the Timetabling team, reporting to the Timetabling Manager. The role holder will become familiar with timetabling data, room inventory across all campuses, plus associated system(s), contributing to work packages assigned by the Head of Timetabling and Timetabling Manager to meet agreed timeframes and objectives.
They will support the Senior Timetabling Officers in their planning of work packages and in solving complex timetabling problems to improve output. The role holder will be responsible for the development of segments of the whole university timetable, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure the timetable supports the learning environment.
The post holder will support the monitoring of timetabling data quality, learning a wide range of interrogation methods, and will support the delivery of training on data quality standards and procedures, promoting their use with stakeholders using the system.
The post holder will support the delivery of training on system tools and system functionality and collaborate with business functions within their team in their development of training on business processes that use the system. The post holder will also engage in development of their technical skills related to data analysis and management.
As part of the customer service ethos this role will log, investigate, and address support calls from across the university related to timetabling via Teams, our online support queue, email and, from time to time, face to face.
They will independently investigate issues and proactively escalate those that require more senior/expert support. They will be solution-focused, with customer service ethos, and demonstrate a degree of judgement to make recommendations and decisions and find solutions.

Flexible and connected (Professional Services) Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and across the year but must purposefully align to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that there will be a relatively even balance between time spent on and off campus; but in most cases the work location will be determined by the service required or the tasks/activities being undertaken.
