Are you a strategic leader with a passion for safety, security and community? We are looking to recruitment a Security Shift Manager (Nights) to help shape a secure and welcoming environment for our students, staff and visitors.

An excellent opportunity exists to join our friendly team within Security Services leading a shift of a specialist team of approximately 10 in house security officers.

As a key member of the Security Team, the Security Services Shift Manager (Nights) reports to the Head of Security and motivates, leads and directs the team that they are responsible for. Due to the nature of the role at night, the postholder will work independently and will be required to be a decision maker and be confident as to when to defer an incident to the ‘On Call’ Senior Manager.

The postholder will be a subject matter expert in security across the estate to ensure that the environment is safe, secure and monitored effectively. The security officers are located at all sites, including residential and academic buildings, and are often the first point of contact for students, staff and visitors. Ensuring that these staff maintain a professional and customer focussed approach is integral to the post and that excellent service is delivered across an ethnically and culturally diverse HE environment. It is important to note that the university advocates an ethos of ‘soft Security’ where at all possible.

We are looking for an individual with experience of managing a small security team, preferably within the HE Sector. You will lead their team to meet strategic goals and foster collaboration. The ability to adapt to changing priorities and remain calm in an emergency is a prerequisite of the role. Working in a confidential and fast changing environment, adaptability and flexibility are important skills for the role.

You will possess demonstrable experience of working at management level within the field of security and will possess SIA CCTV and DS. A DBS check will be undertaken by the University prior to any successful appointment.

How will you work?

You will work primarily at our Canterbury Campus with occasional travel to our other campuses. Therefore, a clean driving license and an ability to drive will be required
