Resilience Officer

About the Role
The Emergency Planning & Resilience Partnership Team is based in Maidstone and working across both Swale and Maidstone Borough Councils. This role supports the delivery of the councils’ statutory functions under the Civil Contingencies Act (2004).

The post holder will work as part of a team to ensure both councils plan effectively for and are able to respond to disruptive challenges. They will ensure the councils are compliant with all relevant legislation enabling response to emergencies affecting the business and the communities we serve.

The post holder will:

• Work with partners in the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum to ensure a coordinated response to emergencies
• Work with internal and external stake holders to ensure incident response plans, training and exercises are aligned with the councils’ objectives and duty within the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
• Ensure the resilience of the councils’ services by supporting the maintenance of a business continuity management programme to protect the continued provision of critical services to residents during disruptive incidents

This is a full-time position on a permanent contract.

About You
While previous experience in emergency planning and business continuity is desirable, candidates without prior experience in these specific fields will be considered if they can demonstrate the key skills and knowledge required to succeed in the role. This will be combined with the willingness and aptitude to learn and grow in the role.

As Resilience Officer, you will be self-motivated and can work with a high degree of autonomy. You will hold specific responsibilities within the team and take the lead on some areas of the work plan.

This role involves close liaison with a range of organisations including local authorities, parishes, voluntary organisations, and emergency services. Prior experience and a track record of working successfully with a range of internal and external stake holders is therefore essential.

You will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage some degree of pressure. On occasion, the Emergency Planning and Resilience Team must respond immediately outside of working hours to the demands of an incident.

Additionally, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written). You will have the ability deputise for the Emergency Planning and Resilience Manager and be required to advise and support senior officers of the council and elected members on emergency planning and business continuity related matters.

Selection Process:
