Job Title: Senior Transport Planner
Company: Stears Haulage Ltd (Est 1971)
Reports to: Managing Director
Salary: £33-36k dependent on experience
Location: Sandwich, Discovery Park, CT13 9ND
Stears Haulage Ltd are looking for a strong candidate to join the company to assist a current team of 4 in a busy transport environment. Further opportunities to progress in the future within the business.
Skills and Experience
Minimum 3- 5 years experience in Transport planning.
Managers CPC Qualification advantageous but not essential.
Knowledge of drivers hours/working time regulations.
The successful candidate will require experience of working in a busy and pressured office environment.
The individual would need to have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to adapt to a changing environment and to take responsibility for decisions made at short notice as and when required.
Excellent communication skills with an ability to liaise effectively with drivers, customers, work colleagues and members of the public is a requirement. A very professional and friendly telephone manner is essential to the role. Good geographical knowledge of the UK would also be beneficial.
Outstanding customer service skills.
Working under your own initiative regularly is a large part of the role after full training has been given.
The applicant will need to have very good organisational skills to keep on top of a variety of essential time specific tasks.
Adept at developing new business/clients to aid continued growth of the company, so a high level of marketing skills are required.
You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite/Google Docs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Undertake lead responsibility the daily planning for 14-18 vehicles alongside a colleague. This involves meeting timed deliveries as required by customers and finding suitable UK reloads.
Liaising with the drivers throughout the day and monitoring their progress to ensure they complete required work in the required timescales.
Assist drivers with any issues they may encounter while carrying out their daily deliveries.
Communicating effectively with customers to keep them informed of the progress of their deliveries.
Organising the shipment of trailers by booking them on relevant sailings to ensure operation runs smoothly.
Responsible for providing new quotes to existing and new customers.
Reviewing current practises to ensure the business is using the most cost-effective solution.
Have an awareness of industry compliance and relevant legislation that the operation is subject to.
Answering any incoming phone calls and dealing with them in the appropriate way.
Creating new job sheets on in house computer systems.
Carry out any other tasks required to keep the transport office and vehicles/drivers running efficiently.
Learning other roles within the business to assist in the future.
Hours of Work
Monday – Friday: 8am-5pm.
Holiday – 25 days A/L plus bank holidays (including 3 A/L days to be taken over the Christmas shutdown period).
