The Division of Arts and Humanities is looking to employ an experienced Technical Specialist with a focused specialism in Architecture.
The role will involve supporting the students and staff of Kent School of Architecture and Planning, including our new courses in Graphic Design and Spatial and Interior Design. Primarily the role will focus on software support for the various 2D and 3D design programmes used across the school. However there is scope for the technical support of other activities within the school such as 3D site and object scanning and, in particular, 3D printing. Working alongside specialist technical colleagues you will be driven to provide the very best student and staff experience, always looking for opportunities to enhance the service.
As Technical Specialist (Architecture) you will have:
Experience working in specialist facilities, ensuring effective, safe and efficient use of resources whilst maintaining operational availability and service levels
A good understanding and knowledge of 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design software
Autodesk suite, Rhino, 3D Systems Geomagic
Adobe CC – Photoshop and Illustrator
Experience managing graphical rendering processes and systems.
Solve any rendering issues, ensuring all 2D and 3D rendering jobs are completed and scheduled
Experience using Slicer software for Additive Manufacturing Technology and ability to adapt parameters/ settings to achieve cost/time/ quality requirements, from staff/ students.
Knowledge and understanding of stereolithography
The ability to assist staff and student with file and data preparations for digital fabrication.
Demonstrable experience preparing 3D Cad files for rapid manufacturing.
Knowledge and experience of STL (standard Tessellation Language) file types, and methods of fixing mesh geometry:
Non-Manifolds/ Self-intersections/Creased Edges/ Spikes.
Understanding of 3D scanning technology and associated software tools
Artec Eva, Faro Focus 3D, Breuckmann smartSCAN
To be successful in this role you will have:
proven experience of working in a Technical support role
experience operating and maintaining complex technical equipment
excellent working knowledge of safety regulations, legislation, and procedures. For example, Risk assessment, COSHH
Experience in 3D printing is not a requirement for the role but those with experience or an interest are encouraged to apply.
