This is an exciting opportunity to join the Division of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences in the role of Technical Manager (IT) and to be part of the technical services team, delivering outstanding student experience and research excellence.
As an IT Technical Manager you will oversee the timely and effective operation of all IT services to the Division. Leading from the front you will be just as comfortable managing the team as you are utilising your skills in providing hands on IT support. In a fast-moving environment you will be looking for new ways to develop IT solutions that underpin the delivery of the very best teaching, research, and innovation activities.
You will oversee all technical staff within the IT team, as well as working alongside other technical specialists and managers. You will plan, oversee, and review the work of the team, ensuring timely delivery of teaching events and the oversight of associated facilities, including managing operational budgets and the procurement of resources.
Reporting to the IT and Technical Services Manager, you will contribute to the continuous development and improvement of the wider technical support provision across the division.
As Technical Manager (IT) you will:
Manage all technical staff within the Divisional IT team.
Maintain hands on, proactive support to customers, using specialist knowledge, skills and experience.
Oversee the diagnosis of faults, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems.
Manage the procurement of complex technical equipment and associated service contracts.
Establish and maintain health and safety practices.
To be successful in this role you will:
Extensive experience in a related IT role.
Experience of managing a team providing technical services.
Extensive experience managing Windows Server and/or Unix/Linux Servers
Working knowledge of Microsoft server products and systems including for example SCCM, DPM, Microsoft Active Directory including Group Policy, Hyper-V and failover clustering
Excellent knowledge of common server hardware and configuration requirements
