Canterbury Christ Church University seeks to appoint a part-time ‘Senior Legal Adviser – Property’ to provide legal advice to the University and leadership in respect of a wide range of complex property related legal matters including high value transactions and contracts.

The University’s estate includes various freehold and leasehold interests and the University offers a variety of student accommodation options to its students. It also provides conferencing facilities to third parties. The post holder will report to the University Solicitor and Clerk to the Governing Body and be a senior member of the University’s Governance and Legal Services team. They will have a high degree of autonomy, working closely with the Director of Estates and Facilities and a range of internal and external stakeholders. The post holder will lead on advising on the legal aspects of the University’s strategy to ensure that the University makes the best and most efficient use of its estate.

You will hold a professional legal qualification, as a solicitor or barrister qualified to practise in England and Wales. Senior level commercial property law expertise gained in-house or in private practice is an essential requirement of this post. You will have significant, high-level experience of providing commercial property law advice on strategic, complex, and high value matters and transactions, including litigation. You will be required to demonstrate significant experience of taking responsibility for liaising with external legal counsel in relation to handling such matters together with significant knowledge and experience of meeting charity law requirements. You will have proven experience in participating in external networks and forums to keep various stakeholders informed about the latest developments in property law affecting their business. You will lead on the provision of guidance and training to University teams and individuals in all aspects of property law to enhance and develop the skills and confidence of relevant colleagues. Knowledge and experience relating to construction law would be an advantage.
