We are seeking to recruit two new Press and Public relations Officer with an outstanding record in media and communications work.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to become an instrumental part of the Corporate Communications team and take a lead in raising the profile of the University in the local, national and international media in a way that enhances its reputation for the quality of its research, teaching and civic engagement activities.

As Press and Public relations Officer you will:

Source news from across the University, both in the UK and mainland Europe, to devise and implement proactive media campaigns
Produce clear, well-written and accurate copy, often to tight deadlines
Write for and update the department’s web and social media pages, working closely with the Communications team to ensure a joined up approach
Maintain an awareness of the current news agenda, higher education agenda and the student recruitment cycle to help identify media trends and PR opportunities
Write clear and concise copy for award submissions

To be successful in this role you will have:

a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant area
an outstanding record in media and communications work, with substantial experience
experience in using social media and online communications tools, and a willingness to keep abreast of new developments in this area through appropriate CPD activities
the ability to work flexibly, often with complex subject matter across a broad range of subject areas

Corporate Communications seeks to build and protect the institution’s reputation at a regional, national and international level. The department is comprised of a team of professionals with the director reporting to the Vice-Chancellor. The team works in collaboration with colleagues across the institution and engages with a wide range of stakeholders including the media, national agencies, staff, students and the local community. Departmental activities include press relations, reputation management, brand guidance, staff and student communications, publications, stakeholder engagement, digital and social media activities and corporate marketing campaigns. The department leads on the institution’s crisis communications response.
