As a 999/101 Call Handler and Dispatcher based at the Force Control Room in Maidstone, you'll help to provide first class service to the people of Kent, answering emergency and non-urgent calls and making decisions to determine the most appropriate response from policing and dispatch police resources to incidents.
You will be the first point of contact to respond to calls for service from members of public who may be distressed, or agitated. The caller may be the victim of a crime and you will be expected to work quickly but remain calm under pressure, providing reassurance to our callers whilst gathering as much information as possible to enable our Police officers to deal with the emergency incidents, support our victims and make our communities safer. As a Dispatcher you will deploy police officers to attend routine incidents or deal with real life emergencies.
Being a Call Handler and Dispatcher can be challenging and unpredictable, and no two days are the same, but you will receive full support, training and skills development to ensure that you can be the best you can be. Training will be provided separately for call handling, and dispatcher - once competent in one role, you will have the opportunity to train for the other role.
Our Force Control Room operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year and the role will work on a rotating shift pattern. Find out more about this opportunity within our application page.
