Senior Skills Trainer – Early Years

Are you passionate about shaping the future of early years education? We are seeking an inspiring and committed Senior Skills Trainer to support and develop the next generation of early years professionals. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with apprentices and employers across the early years sector, helping learners build the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to deliver high-quality childcare and education.

You will play a key role in delivering outstanding apprenticeship provision within early years settings, supporting apprentices from recruitment through to successful end point assessment. Through a blend of workplace coaching, classroom delivery and mentoring, you will empower learners to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality training, coaching and assessment for early years apprentices, supporting them to develop outstanding practice in childcare and education
Conduct initial assessments, inductions and skills scans to ensure tailored learning journeys
Support apprentices to embed key early years principles, including safeguarding, child development, wellbeing and inclusive practice
Work closely with nurseries, schools and early years employers to plan and monitor off-the-job training
Embed English and Maths into vocational delivery in meaningful and engaging ways
Maintain accurate records using e-portfolio systems, ensuring compliance with funding and quality requirements
Promote a strong culture of safeguarding, health & safety, and professional standards across all provision

You will have experience within the early years sector and a genuine passion for developing others. It would also be advantageous if you are skilled in coaching, mentoring or training (or willing to work towards a teaching/assessing qualification). It goes without saying that you must be organised and proactive, with the ability to manage a varied workload.

The Role:

Where you’ll work: The role is based at North Kent College’s Dartford campus. The nature of the work will require travel to any of the College sites as appropriate and local surrounding areas.

Your hours: 22.2 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum (0.6 FTE).

Your pay: £23,419.20 pro rata per annum (£39,032 per annum full time equivalent)

The College:

North Kent College (including Hadlow College) is proudly rated as an Ofsted ‘Good’ provider, with ‘Outstanding’ learner behaviours and attitudes (April 2024). With four campuses across Kent and 4,000 students, we strive to equip the young people who study here with an inclusive and innovative education experience to enhance their future career prospects, which, as noted by Ofsted, is supported through our high-quality, industry standard facilities. Each and every staff member plays a key part in delivering the success of our learners’ experience, and we want those who join our curriculum and support teams to share our passion in achieving this.

The Benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary, you can expect the following benefits.

33 days’ annual leave (including Christmas / New Year break) plus bank holidays (full time equivalent).
Enrolment onto the People’s Partnership pension scheme (as part of the staff of North Kent College Business Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of North Kent College).
Access to free parking and a range of onsite facilities, a restaurant and coffee shop

How to Apply:

If this sounds like the next role for you, please visit the North Kent College staff vacancies page to see the full job description and apply.

Please note that the closing date for applications is 19th April 2026 with interviews scheduled to take place in the week commencing 11th May 2026.

North Kent College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and all staff have a responsibility to share and maintain this commitment. In line with the requirements of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, appropriate safeguarding checks (including an enhanced DBS check) will be undertaken on all individuals selected for appointment. Posts at the College, a specified establishment where the work gives opportunity for contact with children, are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to complete and submit prior to their interview a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children.
