The Role
The Fabricator/Welder is responsible for the maintenance and repairs on a variety of works train rail plant equipment including locomotives, wagons, Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), Hiabs, and road vehicles including Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), and light commercial vehicles.
Principal Accountabilities, Qualifications, and Experience
• Perform planned fabricating and welding maintenance and repairs for Works Train on rail plant equipment and road vehicles in accordance with the maintenance standards and schedules to achieve maximum availability and reliability.
• Complete corrective fabricating and welding maintenance and repairs of Works Train rail plant equipment and road vehicles in accordance with approved diagnostic procedures and instructions to ensure the equipment is returned to service in a safe and timely manner.
• Operation of Works Train equipment and Locomotives within yard areas.
• Learn relevant computerised administrative systems.
• Become qualified in using all relevant equipment (e.g. locomotives, MEWPs, High Pressure (HP) wash, electrical/mechanical forklifts, etc.)
• Previous experience of fabricating/welding activities is essential.
• Coding/experience to the following are a requirement:
Fillet and Butt in all welding positions
MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA
BS EN ISO 9606-1
BS EN ISO 15614-1
• Experience in motor vehicle/plant/railway is an advantage.
• A valid driving licence is essential.
• The ability to communicate in French is not essential but would be an advantage.
