Sole Charge - Payroll Manager | Mid-Kent | £40k - £50k

An opportunity has arisen to join a well-respected and award winning business in Kent as the business’s Payroll Manager on a permanent basis. This role is fully office based

Working within the finance team the Payroll Manager will have responsibility for maintaining the payroll function, ensuring that all payrolls, including PAYE, self-employed, agency labour and consultancy services are managed efficiently. This a standalone role looking after a complex payroll with weekly, fortnightly and monthly payroll with the addition of temporary workers. This position is very manual, so you will need be someone who can look into automating things and make process improvements.


Key Responsibilities
• Manage various pay structures in operation throughout the group
• Day to day responsibility for weekly, monthly and executive payrolls ensuring all data is managed in a timely manner and with a high degree of accuracy
• Day to day responsibility for weekly and monthly self-employed and agency payments
• Day to day responsibility for payments to Personal Service Companies
• Weekly payroll of 110 employees, monthly of 70 employees, self-employed payments of circa 300, agency payments of circa 25
• Assisting in the management of the company’s bonus scheme
• Monitor, record and calculate holiday pay, termination payments, non-statutory deductions, P11’d’s, PSA’s etc
• Apprenticeship Levey Reporting and administration
• Invoicing of wages and salaries to Group companies and subsequent reconciliations
• CIS verification, CIS return and payment processing
• RTI submissions
• Entries and journals into the accounts
• Expenses
• The input and processing of all payroll data from starters, leavers, salary and statutory changes
• Auto enrolment pension administration and dealing with our pension providers
• HMRC and Pension reporting to deadlines
• Liaising closely with the Resources department and Company heads on all labour related issues
• To provide routine and ad hoc reports to Senior Management, such as:
o Headcount
o Overtime
o Holidays
o Sickness
o Costs
o Total cost of employment
o Productivity
o Trends
o Bonus payments and accruals
• Benefits administration including childcare vouchers, cycle to work scheme and private health through payroll
• To investigate and deal with all pay queries that may arise
• Reconcile and raise payment requests for third party payments, to include court orders and all other statutory deductions
• To ensure all company loans that may have been provided are reconciled and payment plans are adhered to
• Provide salary and pension information for monthly management accounts production.
• Proactively keeping up to date with new payroll legislation and compliance
• Evaluation of current procedures and processes to ensure the function is run in the most efficient way
• Manage the year end process
• Liaising with HMRC and all other external bodies

Candidate Profile
• Strong knowledge of current payroll legislation
• IT competent with good knowledge of excel
• Excellent communicator, written and verbal, when dealing with External bodies and internal staff
• Knowledge of statutory payments (SMP, SSP and SPP)
• Excellent attention to detail and a can do attitude
• Willing to challenge the status quo in a positive way
• A desire to deliver an excellent payroll service and add value to the business
