Contract Type: Fixed Term - Ends 30/09/2024
Release Date: Friday 01 July 2022

Do you have data analysis and evaluation skills that can be applied in the study of the social care and health systems?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for the chance to be involved in applied research that could help make a difference to the lives of vulnerable people and their families.

Working in a leading research centre in social care (PSSRU), the successful applicant will join the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration for Kent Surrey and Sussex (ARC KSS) and work on the social care theme in the ARC programme with prospects for significant research and other contributions to be made.

Analysis and development of data resources has significant potential to address key challenges in the care system, helping policy makers and practitioners in improving services and support. For example, it could help us understand how to better integrate health and care systems; to explore and reduce inequalities; and promote the sustainability of the care workforce.

Your main duties will be to use your skills to develop relevant datasets, analyse and interrogate this data, and draw out the policy and practice implications. You will support ARC social care projects, which include the following activities.

To use and analyse existing data on care services, systems and innovations to inform our understanding of how access to services differs between local areas and regions; and to estimate, as far as possible, the causal effects of relevant policy and practice in the care system.
Working with local health and social care partners to build capacity and support for (data) analysis and evaluation of (new) care interventions and their implementation.
As a Research Associate you will:

undertake the main activities of research and evaluation, from development, data collection, analysis/interpretation, and reporting and knowledge exchange
work with data owners and providers to develop datasets and data resources for research purposes
help to develop and strengthen applied research capacity in social care
work with ARC regional and national partners including local care and health professionals and practitioners
contribute to the development of new research opportunities and funding
To be successful in this role you will have:

a post-graduate degree and ideally a PhD, or near equivalent, in a relevant subject
statistical and data analytic skills with experience of quantitative research methods and their application
Experience of undertaking research in care and health or related areas, and a willingness to develop this knowledge.
Ideally, you will also have:

knowledge of the evaluation and analysis of care and/or health interventions
knowledge of the workings and operation of the social care and health systems
PSSRU is a long-established research centre providing high quality research on social care, health care, and related areas. We have an extensive track record in producing research in the area of social care and person-centred interventions. PSSRU colleagues are also involved with two NIHR Policy Research Units (PRUs) and the NIHR School for Social Care Research.
