Working for a design and manufacturing business in Dartford, the purpose of this role is to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. In this stand-alone role, you will be responsible using your expert knowledge to control risks and ensure the business meets current safety standards and that all employees comply with safety policies and practices. You will possess in-depth, working knowledge of current health, safety and environmental practices and legislation and experience of working within a similar role, ideally from within a manufacturing environment. Working with the HR Manager, you introduce new procedures and policies where required and manage the existing H&S framework whilst carrying-out periodic audits, providing training to existing and new team members to include manual handling.
To apply, you will be demonstrate proven ability to deliver value added results and make informed decisions on the basis of cost, efficiency, quality and business needs. You will be have the ability to interpret processes and improve their effectiveness, be a complex problem solver with excellent attention to detail who has good written and verbal communication skills together with proficiency in MS Office packages. It is essential you are NEBOSH qualified with a General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
The role
* Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards and safe ways of working. Working closely with managers to ensure that working practices are both safe and in conjunction with current health and safety legislation
* Carrying out detailed risk assessments to consider ways in which risks can be reduced. Carry out regular reviews to assess their effectiveness and need for change.
* Establishing, developing and maintaining a positive health and safety culture as well as acting as a site wellbeing champion where employees are signposted to the appropriate support channels
* Proactively carrying out planned and ad-hoc audits/regular site checks in line with KPI's to ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to whilst identifying any required improvements
* Producing material for and leading in-house safety related training to educate both managers and employees on health and safety related risks and safe ways of working
* Maintaining and reporting on health and safety related data via a variety of platforms, in order to identify and implement improvements and update on progress
* Recording and investigating of incidents and accidents together with suggestions and implementation of corrective actions
* Keeping up to date with latest developments in health and safety legislation including but not limited to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Make UK
* Supporting and overseeing the safe installation of equipment on site to ensure safe practices are maintained
* Working cross-functionally with the Facilities team to manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances on site
* Advising on a range of specialist areas e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
* Working inter-departmentally and liaising with external contractors to schedule servicing, maintenance and statutory inspections where required
* Identifying opportunities for improvement to take the business function forward; taking ownership for seeking approval and implementing any changes
