Warship/Mission System/Hardware Integration Lead Engineer

My client, a world-renowned Industry Sector company, is looking for a Warship Mission System Principal Engineer to join the Portsmouth based team. You will be working within an established team of professionals who will all have a similar skillset and background to yourself, so you will be able to interact with like-minded individuals daily.

Would you like the chance to lead junior engineers working on a destroyer's highly integrated and complex weapon and information systems with an opportunity to establish yourself within the company? We currently have a vacancy for a Lead Engineer at our clients' site in Portsmouth.

As a Lead Engineer, you will be undertaking a defined range of engineering activities, principally managing engineering change and maintaining design engineering standards in line with the extant CSM Work Breakdown Structure, the CSM Business Processes and relevant Business Management Processes/Procedures.

This role will provide you with career opportunities within the wider business.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

Holding delegation of authority for areas of design where assigned by the Mission System DTA.

Supporting the compilation, the authoritative evidence to demonstrate that Design Intent has been achieved, ensuring design change has been holistically integrated and under configuration control.

Ensuring that each design change safety case has integrity, is comprehensive, coherent and consistent.

Applying engineering expertise to complex engineering change processes in the development of engineering impact assessment and support of problem resolution

Collecting and collating evidence to support Naval Authority Certification submissions

Being the primary Warship Technical Authority Point of Contact for all T45 Mission System-related queries

Liaising with both internal and external stakeholders as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed

Leading and managing engineering staff; ensuring each team member is assessed, developed, deployed and skilled to maximise their personal contribution and meet the requirements of contracts, schedules and specifications.

Providing suitable information or instruction for the team to undertake all activities in a safe and environmentally friendly way

Regularly reviewing SHE performance as part of the management agenda, ensure all employees keep safe and work safely.

Supporting the Mission System DTA during an investigation or design change management of other Portsmouth based Mission System platforms when requested

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Significant experience in and demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of engineering issues within the Mission System area (or equivalent) and understanding of other platform engineering disciplines

Significant understanding and experience in some of the technical areas listed below, or be able to demonstrate experience in similar systems, to enable the successful execution of the principal accountabilities of the role:

Fibre Optic and Network infrastructures

Naval Command Systems

Real-time Combat Systems

Standalone and Integrated Weapon Systems

Coalition, Mission, Planning and Office Information Systems

Conventional and Satellite External & Internal Comms Systems

Safety, including being able to provide a demonstrable experience of taking responsibility for safety decisions using sound safety management processes/tools

Physical integration into a system of systems, understand impacts on wider systems and how they affect the overall capability and performance on the Navigation, Anti Air/Surface/Sub Surface Warfare and Operation capability of the vessel

Have a good knowledge of the Engineering/ILS/Support industry;

Experience in matrix management in a complex operational environment

Has a good understanding of transverse engineering disciplines such as Environment, Human factors, Materials, Signatures, Vulnerability, physical security and TEMPEST, RADHAZ, Electro Environmental Effect, EMP & Electrostatic Discharge

Desirable:

Knowledge and experience of the defence maritime industry, especially the MoD Mission/Combat System structure and departments
