QUALIFIED MAINTENANCE PLUMBER
HMP Rochester, Kent.
Temporary Long term contract.
Overview of the position:
As a supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades including a Qualified (City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2) Maintenance Plumber for Rochester, Kent.
This is a Temporary Contract starting ASAP, initially for a 1 month rolling contract. This is likely to be extended further, with the opportunity to apply for permanent position. You must be local to the area, have City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3. Welding experience or qualifications would be an asset.
This Long-term Temporary Contract is based on Monday to Friday 39 hours per week. There could be a rota involved working 1 weekend in every 3. The rate is £21.86 per hour Monday - Friday. Increased Weekend rates. This is paid via an umbrella PAYE company. A direct PAYE option is available at a reduced hourly rate due to deductions.
Experience:
City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing Time served applicants or lower level editions will not be considered.
The prison is looking for a qualified multi-skilled Plumber/ fitter, ideally with maintenance experience working with PPM systems and Work dockets systems.
You will be required to carry out varied duties such as reactive repairs & small planned projects and maintenance. Previous experience in a prison/ public sector is not required for this role. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison is provided by the establishment/ department.
Purpose of the Maintenance role:
As part of the Works Department you will be responsible for both reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance.

The Maintenance role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. Always in demand, you could benefit from long-term contracts and there is also potential, once trained, to work in other prisons both locally and nationally. You must be local to the prison or have your own transport.
Security Clearance required:
All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 6 weeks, this can include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
