Do you have experience in social work education supported by a background of professional social work? We have an exciting 12 month, full time opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Lecturer to provide maternity cover.

Starting in January 2022, the successful candidate will be central to the continued development and delivery of all social work programmes, using both face to face and blended approaches to learning (combining distance and face-to-face teaching), and its subsequent delivery and assessment.

This post offers a superb opportunity to play a major part in developing and delivering social work education with employers through the suite of qualifying social work programmes offered at the University of Kent. The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) has well-established experience in delivering social work education offering both undergraduate degree and postgraduate courses as well as work-based routes such as the Social Worker (Degree) Apprenticeship and Step Up to Social Work, partnership arrangements and professional development training.

As a Lecturer in Social Work, you will:


  • Develop distinctive, exciting and innovative programmes of study that combine academic excellence with an exceptional student experience and appropriate learning resources.

  • Develop, teach and keep under review modules for the BA in Social Work, MA in Social Work, Step up to Social Work, Social Worker (Degree) Apprenticeship and continuing professional development education.

  • Contribute to sustaining and developing the student experience in social work.

  • Contribute fully to the School and the University by playing a role in working groups, committees and other School and University activities



To succeed in this role you will have/be:

  • Educated to Masters Degree level (or equivalent) in a related field

  • Registration with Social Work England

  • Significant experience of teaching and assessing social work students and/or practitioners.

  • Recent experience in an academic and/or practice setting

  • Knowledge and application of contemporary social work practice
