The University of Kent Counselling team is looking for a Counsellor/Counselling Psychologist or CBT Therapist to provide short term confidential counselling to students experiencing mental health difficulties or emotional distress, in order to support retention, academic achievement and progression. Ideally, you will draw upon a range of therapeutic modalities such as integrative counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, and brief solution focused therapy in this role.

We are looking for Counsellors who can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with appropriate communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a wide variety of issues. You will have experience of working with young people from diverse backgrounds and you will be required to have full accreditation with an appropriate professional body.

As Counsellor you will:

provide a confidential counselling service to students via a range of interventions including assessment, individual counselling sessions, group sessions, workshops and self-help
keep accurate, systematic records of counselling sessions and work within the policies and procedures of the Counselling Service
liaise closely with colleagues to ensure a high-quality responsive service is delivered to students
undertake regular training and continuing professional development to keep abreast of changes and developments in the field
To be successful in this role you will have:

a counselling or psychotherapy qualification up to at least Diploma Counselling level, or equivalent and accreditation from the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy or equivalent accreditation process
experience of triaging and assessing clients
experience of delivering group work, courses and other training
experience of working with a diverse client group encompassing a broad age range and from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
