The Post
We are seeking to appoint a part time Library Supervisor, from September 2021. The successful applicant will be expected to manage the smooth and efficient operation of the School library and administering, promoting and maintaining a stimulating and welcoming environment. In order to develop the independent learning skills of our students, the Library Supervisor’s role is increasingly one of imparting information literacy and research skills alongside the day-to-day running of the library.
Candidates should have a knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, literature. The ability to have some flexibility with working hours would be welcome. Previous experience of working in a School library, with 11-18 year olds, would be an advantage. Candidates should be a competent user of IT, proactive, well organised and reliable.
The working requirement is based on a two-week rota, with 31 hours being worked one week and 27 hours the next, including alternate Saturday mornings.
Terms and Conditions
The starting salary is circa £11,600 per annum. The two-week rota includes the following hours:
Week One - 8.15am - 6.15pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and 8.15am - 12.15pm Saturday
Week Two - 8.15am - 6.15pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Responsibilities and Main Tasks
• Line manage the library assistant;
• Work with pupils as individuals or in small groups;
• Purchase new books that reflect the requirements of the School’s curriculum, pupils’ interests and requests;
• Organise an annual stock take;
• Arrange termly author visits to promote literacy;
• Plan activities and/or author visits for World Book Day every March;
• Issue and discharge books and resource material;
• Day to day inputting and updating of the database;
• Promote the library through regular competitions and activities for pupils;
• Maintain and promote the e-book and audio library platform;
• Produce annual reading lists for both the Juniors and Senior pupils, available both online and as hardcopies to encourage reading;
• Assist in all aspects of book care and the library archives;
• Carry out the general administrative duties necessary for the efficient organisation of the School library;
• Supervise pupils who use the library to ensure a conducive atmosphere for learning is maintained;
• Assist with library exhibitions.
