Support Worker / Admin Assistant - Sensory Impairments
Sidcup / Maidstone
Temporary to Permanent - 41 hours per week including travel
£9.00 - £11.00 per hour


Organisation / Company:
Established in the 1930s this organisation has a fantastic reputation. It was set up to support individuals who are living with sensory impairments and has been a pioneer in providing support primarily to individuals who are blind. The company operate nationally but are looking for a support worker to work with a member of staff based in their Maidstone office.

Role:
You will be required to support a member of staff who has sensory impairments with their day to day work tasks including but not limited to:

* Assisting them with their commute to and from work from their home in Sidcup to the office in Maidstone (using your personal car)
* Provide orientation and sighted guide in unfamiliar environments
* Assisting with personal needs such as finding lunch and refreshments and guiding with preparing hot drinks.
* Providing exercise for Guide Dog
* You may also be required to drive to training courses and activities away from the office
* Responsible for reading printed documents and typing documents to be electronically accessible, note taking during phone conversation calls and putting information into databases.
* Visual assistance with documents, tabulating letters, printing documents on letter heads, filling forms and other paperwork, develop Power Point Presentations. To locate information from a variety of sources, including the internet.
* Attending meetings and take notes
* Assisting in preparing meeting rooms, describing layout and who is in the room, identifying emergency exits and identifying trip hazards
* Creating documents: Scanning printed documents and making them accessible - to include assistance in making them accessible to a Braille Embosser (braille printer). Will work using the accessible document creating guide to produce documents accessible either electronically or in Braille depending on what the situation requires


Skills / Experience required:

* You will need to have a flexible and compassionate approach to work
* You will need to be comfortable working around dogs
* It is advantageous that you have supported individuals with sensory impairments in a previous role.
* You will have key administration skills and knowledge of Microsoft office packages such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
* You must be a driver and have your own vehicle
* You will be subject to employment and background checks
* Ideally living close to the Sidcup area due to the commute assistance

Benefits:

* Competitive hourly pay rate available
* Mileage expenses will be paid
* 41 hours paid per week typically based on a 3 day working week but will need the flexibility to work a 5 day week when required.
* This is a temporary to permanent position and all being well you would transfer to a permanent contract paying between £20,000 - £21,000 per annum
* DBS support if you are not on the update service
* Access to online training courses
* Opportunity to work with other Hays clients on an adhoc basis
