We are currently recruiting for a key manufacturing client in Ashford (non-food) for a Senior Shift Engineer to join their team.

The role is within a fast paced manufacturing environment where the main purpose of the role is to assist the Engineering Shift Manager to create a high performing team with the overall target to achieve zero breakdowns and eliminate machine set up issues. You will be working within a “clean environment”.

We are ideally looking for an individual with 4 years + experience gained within engineering environment with a recognised qualification in an engineering discipline or engineering competency in a relevant discipline at a level enough to develop, motivate and lead a team of Multi Skilled Engineers, (typically having served an Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent in a core or manufacturing engineering discipline).

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
Total number of staff: 4 – 6
Directly Reporting to the Engineering Shift Manager
Lead the engineering shift team to create a high performing culture where team members are motivated, engaged, and supported to develop and achieve their potential.
Plan and prioritise the shift workload for the engineering team to enable production targets to be achieved by maximising machinery up time and aligning with productions priorities
Execute the planned preventative maintenance schedule to maximise machinery up time and minimise disruption to production targets
Ensure documentation reflects all works completed including permit to work is in place and adhered to so that work is always completed safely.
Ensure the shift engineering team adhere to current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) ensuring compliance with all areas of the business
Ensuring that breakdowns/potential safety hazards are attended to immediately
Supervising engineering and maintenance activities, including contractors and project work
Ensuring employee/product safety always, by ensuring full training is given and that all employees always adhere to company safety and hygiene standards
To support the Production Shift Manager and Engineering Shift Manager with technical information to allow effective shift management.
Acting as point of contact during ‘Out of normal working’ hours and liaising further with the Engineering Shift Manager if required.
Out of normal working hours position to report through active Production Shift Manager
Assisting the Engineering Shift Manager with the creation and reviews of engineering documents, such as, SOPs, NCRs, Preventative Maintenance Schedules, Risk Assessments, Logbook Reviews and Change Control.
Lead and support improvements through effective use of the root case analysis techniques. Target is to zero breakdowns and eliminate repeat failures at site.
Develop a culture of prevention rather than cure culture using data to drive decision making.
Assist in NCR/CAPA investigations
Comply with change control procedure as and when applicable
Use trended data to identify root cause and correct longstanding issues

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
An ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers.
An ability to plan, organise and control Maintenance activities
IT literate and competent user in Microsoft applications
Sound knowledge of company Health and Safety and employee relations practices.
The following behavioral competencies: Leadership, Planning and Organisation, Communication, Problem Solving, Motivating Others, Team Orientation, Innovation and Quality/Continuous Improvement and Change Orientation. Results Delivery

Shift Pattern:
Week 1: 6am - 2pm then week 2: 2pm – 10pm week rotation

Competitive salary depending on experience
7.5% shift allowance also payable
