Support Worker

SALARY: £18,000 p.a. / £9.23 ph. Based on a 37.5hr Week. Pro rata for a part time role.

HOURS: 35

SHIFT: 3 week rolling rota with early and late shifts. Early Shift - 7.30am to 4pm / Late Shift - 4pm to 10.30pm

LOCATION: Brompton House, Bromton, Gillingham.

CLOSING DATE: 25th September 2020.

Supporting over 120 people in Medway and across Kent, The Kent Autistic Trust provides a wide range of services designed to meet diverse needs of the people we support with autism, learning disabilities and related difficulties. We provide residential homes, supported living accommodation, day resource services, respite and outreach services. Ensuring the voice of those we support is actively listened to, working for us often means that no two days are the same, but the care and support we give is of consistently high quality, with CQC rating all our services good, and many outstanding.

ABOUT THE SERVICE: BROMPTON HOUSE

We are currently looking to grow our already established and dedicated team of support workers at Brompton House, one of our Specialist Supported Living Establishments that provides 24 hour support. It has 7 individual flats over 4 floors. Currently supporting 5 autistic individuals aged between 25 to 36, who also have other additional needs. They enjoy activities such as taking long walks or swimming and communal activities such as barbecues. Everyone we support is unique and at Brompton House they pride themselves on supporting everyone in their own individual way.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Support workers help our residents with their day to day lives, encouraging them to live as independently as possible. This is a personally rewarding role where you can build on your skills and experience, whilst delivering exceptional care and support to our service users and their families. Having a background in supporting people with Autism in a previous role within a social care environment is desirable, although it is not essential. What is essential is that you understand that autism can be complex and challenging and that each person we support is unique.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Support Worker role may include but not be limited to:

- Providing support to individuals to attend and participate in activities within their communities bike rides, long walks, attending College, shopping, swimming (which would involve you entering the pool)

- Understanding each individuals abilities and support needs

- Promoting independence and choice

- Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion

- Uphold the privacy, confidentially and dignity of all individuals

- Assisting individuals with personal care and hygiene

- Household management tasks cooking, cleaning etc.

- Working with individuals who can display challenging behaviours - hurting self or others, running away, throwing things, swearing, shouting.

- Working with and supporting individuals with additional needs, such as epilepsy, pica, learning disabilities.

- May include lone working

- Ensuring written records are correctly maintained

- Administering medication

- Drive an individuals mobility car or service vehicle Manual Licence required (Optional)

- To form good working relationships with other members of staff across different services.

- A commitment to continuous personal development and learning.

- Supporting individuals to maintain relationships with family and friends i.e. buying cards, phone calls, passing on information etc

- Handle money which may include helping individuals to shop, going to the bank, or supporting people to manage money safely.
