The Opportunity
Our client is a leading, global insurer who underwrite through a Lloyds syndicate platform and in the company market, with offices in 30 countries.

They are seeking to fill a key position for an Underwriting Portfolio Manager for the Life Science practice which provides a wide range of covers; including product liability, EL & PL and clinical trials compensation. You will manage the underwriting team and ensure that business is underwritten and developed in accordance with the business plan. This is an excellent opportunity for you to own and manage your own book of business while leading a team of underwriters.

Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
-Lead and drive the Life Science portfolio and ensure successful delivery of the annual plan
-Positively promote the division and maximise brand awareness
-Spearhead the growth and development of the business plan
-Provide technical expertise for the underwriting of complex risks
-Identify and nurture new and existing revenue streams
-Establish and strengthen strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
-Understand market dynamics and drive business performance
-Review, analyse and report on progress and performance in relation to the business plan.
-Show strong leadership to guide, motivate and develop the team while maximising productivity.

You will need to be able to display the following expertise:
Extensive and detailed background and understanding of Life Science from an Insurance perspective
People management experience - ability to engage and lead a team
Strong established customer/broker relationships
Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions
Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel
Excellent knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
Ability to effectively negotiate
Ability to analyse data and use for decision-making
Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models
