We are looking to recruit a reliable, hardworking and multi-skilled team-player to join our small Building Control Team. Self-motivated and customer focused, you must be able to contribute to the continual improvement of customer satisfaction and teamwork, as you fulfil the Building Control function in a geographical area of the borough in terms of plan vetting, site inspection, dangerous structures and demolitions etc.

Whilst this is a career graded role which allows for progression up to Principal level, we are currently looking to recruit an Assistant Building Surveyor and welcome applications from newly qualified surveyors who want to gain more experience and build on their knowledge, if they have the right attributes alongside our competency framework.

You will be responsible for ensuring an exceptional and professional customer service is provided to the Public, Architects, Builders and Agents and you will have to ensure that the highest standards are always adhered to. You will need to demonstrate effective communication skills, deal with challenging and demanding situations and work well under pressure.

A driving licence is essential, as is the provision of a vehicle.

This is a full-time permanent position being offered working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.

The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers, adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English, is fundamental to the role.

Maidstone Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.

Working in Maidstone you will also be less than an hour from London by train and have all that Kent can offer at your fingertips. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience within an organisation that prides itself on supporting its staff.
