This is your chance to join Kent and Medway Medical School as we pioneer a new era of responsive, student-centred medical education. As GP Educator, you will be helping to ensure that the community-based aspects of our undergraduate programme inspire the next generation of medical professionals.
Kent and Medway Medical School has been created to be a beacon for first-class medical education and research. Bringing together the resources of the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, our whole ethos is one of partnership. The role of GP Educator involves working in close collaboration with colleagues at both Universities, and the wider health education community, to create a positive and facilitative relationship with General Practice and Community Care providers across Kent and Medway.
Reporting to the Lead for GP and Community Education, you will be influencing and supporting the development and integration of the Community Based Learning and Teaching aspects of the curriculum. This will require using evidence-based contemporary theory and methods in order to ensure that curriculum and learning outcomes - mapped to the skills, competencies and professional attributes required of a newly graduating Doctor as described by the GMC - are fully scoped and developed.
Achieving these objectives will necessitate the development and implementation of quality management processes – working closely with both academic and professional services colleagues – as well as developing, planning and delivering the ongoing support of the Practice areas and staff within the community-based aspects of the curriculum.
To make your mark in this exciting new role, you must be an enthusiastic innovator with a healthy attitude to change and new challenges, plus a co-operative approach that matches our own. A suitably qualified, clinically registered and practising specialist in General Practice or Community Care (or equivalent), you will most likely be at an early stage of developing your professional expertise in medical education. Ideally, you will have expert knowledge within the following: student selection, curriculum design, assessment (including admissions), use of portfolios in medical education, electronic learning and assessment, and inter-professional learning and assessment.
This fixed-term role will offer successful candidates the opportunity to start their career in undergraduate medical education, to enhance their skills and knowledge of working in the Higher Education environment and to position themselves for future roles that will become available within Kent and Medway Medical School.
A secondment opportunity may be considered for current staff members of Canterbury Christ Church University.
