Job Title: Team Leader

Location: Gillingham

Hours of work: 30-37.5 Hours per week (over 5 days, Monday to Friday)

Salary: £25,000 to £28,000 per annum (pro rata for 30 hours)

Responsible to: Home-Start Medway Chief Officer

Responsible For: Area Co-ordinators, Administrators and Family Support Workers

Job Purpose

To provide day to day operational and line management of the team, identifying and managing any risks with the support /direction of Chief Officer and trustees. Ensure that these duties are carried out in accordance against the following criteria: - Home-Start Medway Memorandum and Articles of Association - Home-Start Standards and Methods of Practice - Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards

Ensure that the operational objectives of Home-Start Medway are achieved efficiently and effectively through co-ordination of the team’s workload and use of resources. Ensure that the high standards of practice are maintained in supporting families within the HomeStart business model, driving our values and exhibiting behaviours expected. Ensure good safeguarding practice is maintained in all aspects of the scheme’s activities.

Leadership and Management To lead and manage the team of Area Co-ordinators, Administrators and Family Support workers To ensure that all Home-Start Medway policies and procedures are implemented To ensure that projects are delivered on time and in full – adhering to individual funding and recording requirements To co-ordinate the recruitment and subsequent induction of newly appointed team members To manage the hours and workload across the team, including planned and unplanned absence, deploying the scheme’s staffing resources in the most effective way. To be responsible for staff training, induction, probation, disciplinary procedures and skills assessments (with the support of senior management). Ensure all team members receive appropriate supervision, direction and opportunities for development


Support for families Manage an agreed caseload of families with complex needs Maintain an overview of the work with families Ensure that family support is of the high standard expected and is in line with Home-start’s model policies and procedures

Managing Volunteers Work with the Chief Officer to ensure that the scheme maintains and effective team of volunteers. Alongside the Chief Officer, ensure that the Home-Start Medway’s Preparation Course is delivered to all prospective volunteers to the standard expected. Ensure that the scheme’s policies and procedures are fully implemented in all aspects of working with volunteers. This includes recruitment and selection, preparation, support and supervision.

Working in Partnership The job holder will be responsible for the appropriate liaison and communication with referrers and other professionals. Contribute to local policy and community development as required

The job holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as outlined above.

Travel Whilst the post is based in Gillingham, travel across the Medway area will be a key requirement.

Personal Skills Collect and submit data and prepare statistics as required in a timely and accurate manner. Ability to plan and manage your own workload, delegating where appropriate. Reasonable IT/keyboard skills, ability to enter and retrieve data from the IT system. Accurate record keeping and safeguarding client confidentiality – understanding legal and ethical responsibilities and accountabilities. Ability to work independently, seeking the advice of the Chief Officer as required. Innovative and creative thinking – actively developing new ways to improve the service through innovation and ways of working.
