Vacancy – EHS Officer


Position: Environmental, Health and Safety Officer
Location: Sittingbourne and Rochester
Department: Health and Safety
Reporting to: General Manager
Responsible for: Health and safety across two sites
Salary: £25,000-30,000 DOE
Job Type: Full time

My client is a leading supplier of aluminium and magnesium castings and fully-finished, assembly ready cast parts for the aerospace and defence industries.

Duties and Responsibilities

• To support and provide guidance for all line management, supporting and promoting best practice and employee engagement on EHS topics. This includes active support and participation on facilities and other projects that have EHS implications.
• Development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
• Identify safety and environmental risks and aspects and work with all departments to mitigate them.
• Carry out inspections and internal audits to drive compliance against EHS legal requirements as well as internal requirements and KPIs.
• Participate in the local EHS Committee.
• To write and present: - New hire induction safety training, fire Marshall training and other training when required.
• To encourage and support the reporting of all EHS incidents and near misses and ensure that all are properly investigated and reported where necessary and include prevention solutions with corrective actions tracked to completion.
• Manage accident and near-miss log and generate accident statistics.
• Assess EHS implications of proposed new materials and substances, equipment and processes and current controls.
• Assist site service manager to ensure the control of contractors on site, collating documentation and records.
• Maintain and develop the Environmental Management system, undertaking internal audits in line with ISO 14001 to ensure that the system remains compliant with the standard.
• Ensure regular completion and regular review of risk assessments, PUWER risk assessments, Safe systems of work, manual handling, COSHH and display screen equipment for all work equipment and operations.
• Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business, also attending webinars, subscriptions to HSE and other useful sites.



Person Specification

• NEBOSH General certificate as a minimum requirement
• IEMA experience
• Ideally experience working in a manufacturing environment
• Sound understanding of UK EHS Legislation and ISO standards which can be demonstrated
• Good communication skills
• Good training/ presentation skills
• Practical experience of carrying out risk assessments
• Practical experience of investigating accidents and near misses to identify possible root causes
• Good written and oral communication
• Well organised – able to prioritise work and manage projects
• Able to promote EHS activities across the Kent sites
• Possible ‘Can do’ attitude
• Good listener
• Assertive
• Outgoing and engaging
• Able to demonstrate an excellent attitude to health and safety and quality assurance
