Commercial Services are working with Gen² on a new and exciting opportunity for a Principal Building Surveyor.

Gen² are trusted public sector property experts who are transforming the management of public buildings and spaces for current and future generations through our inside knowledge of the sector. They have successfully secured a five year agreement with Kent County Council's infrastructure division and securing new clients, Gen² is looking to expand its talented team of property professionals.

As a Principal Buildings Surveyor you will be reporting to Head of Project Management and working within the project management team. You will be carrying out building surveys and subsequent project work, Building Surveyors duties and provide professional advice on property and construction for commercial, industrial, leisure and residential projects.

This role will see you predominantly working as part of a team but will be required to oversee Surveyor(s) and may be required to oversee/manage small teams of surveyors.

Someone stepping up into a managerial position will also be considered.

The Main duties & responsibilities of the role include;

* Carrying out building surveys; determining the condition of existing buildings, identifying and analysing defects, including proposals for repair.
* Ensure that safety is always the priority, promote safe working practices, ensure full implementation and compliance with Key Processes and Safety Responsibility Statement.
* Ensuring projects are completed on budget and to schedule.
* Being responsible for the coordination and delivery of complex programs of work, leading the monitoring of capital programs, identifying any program and project risks or opportunities, particularly with reference to time, quality and budget; suggesting mitigation for such risks; identifying action required to correct any project slippage. Responsible for monitoring overall budgets as necessary.
* Advising on energy efficiency, environmental impact and sustainable construction.
* Lead any procurement, market testing and bench marking exercises connected with your line of work
* Preparing scheme designs with costings, programmes for completing of projects and specification of works

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a building industry environment and you will have excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral and be able to work on own initiative taking responsibility for actions and decisions surrounding area of accountability. This role will involve working to tight deadlines and delivering the best value results on behalf of the client, whilst still challenging where appropriate.

Qualifications

* Essential: Educated to degree level in a building related field or equivalent and/or suitable building industry qualification commensurate with the post.
* Desirable: Program management or advanced project management qualification
