The Role
We are recruiting a qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join a school in Brighton on a full-time basis, starting as soon as possible.This setting provides a bilingual learning environment where British Sign Language (BSL) is used as the primary language of learning, as it is the first language for the majority of pupils. The successful candidate must therefore be able to teach confidently in this setting from day one.

This is a specialist Deaf Setting in Brighton, recently rated Outstanding by Ofsted. The school is widely recognised for its strong safeguarding culture, highly skilled staff teams, and unwavering commitment to placing young people at the centre of everything they do.It is a small, close-knit setting with a genuine community feel, where learners are known individually and supported holistically. The curriculum is carefully adapted to meet each pupil's needs, strengths and future ambitions, ensuring every learner is encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.Communication underpins every aspect of school life. British Sign Language is embedded throughout the environment, supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence and a strong sense of identity within a vibrant Deaf community.
Essential Requirements
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ (QToD)
* Mandatory qualification as a Teacher of the Deaf
* Strong working knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL)
* Experience teaching Deaf children or young people
* Understanding of Deaf culture and bilingual education
Although BSL lessons are offered to staff, applicants must already have the skills and confidence to teach using BSL immediately.
