Building Maintenance Engineer

Our long term client are looking for a building maintenance person who must be from a multi skilled background and will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of both residential and commercial properties The role involves reactive and planned maintenance tasks, emergency callouts, and project work. You will ensure that all facilities, structures, and systems are safe, functional, and in good repair.
Key Responsibilities:
Reactive Maintenance: Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergencies, including electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and general structural repairs.
Planned Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and servicing of infrastructure, including plumbing & heating systems, water supplies, drainage, electrical installations, roofing, safety systems and other critical systems where applicable.
Project Work: Assist the project team with renovation, refurbishment, and development projects, including assistance installing new systems or equipment.
Call-Outs: Be available for on-call duties to manage urgent repair needs outside regular working hours and attend high profile properties when required or directed by Building Maintenance Foreman.
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure that all work conducted meets health and safety regulations. Perform safety inspections, risk assessments, and ensure that maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner.
Equipment & Inventory Management: Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, managing stock levels for essential parts and materials required for ongoing maintenance work.
Liaison with Contractors: Coordinate with external contractors when required by management.
Skills & Experience Required: Proven history of proficiency in multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, carpentry, and general building fabric maintenance. Ability to fault find, investigate root cause, test and repair equipment.
Experience in Reactive & Planned Maintenance: Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a residential, or commercial property setting, with a strong ability to manage both emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance.
Knowledge of Health & Safety: Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, including safe working practices in a building and maintenance environment including building sites, public facing areas, farm buildings and heritage properties. CDM2015 knowledge a must.
Problem-Solving Ability: Proven ability to troubleshoot issues, make quick decisions, and conduct effective repairs in a timely manner, make temporary repairs pending handover to a qualified trade including ability to provide concise information to other team members.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to inspections, diagnostics, and the quality of work performed.
Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with management, colleagues, and residents, with a professional and customer-oriented attitude.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2/3 in a relevant trade (plumbing, electrical, etc.) or equivalent qualification.
- City & Guilds or equivalent in Electrical Installations or Plumbing
- Knowledge of heritage buildings and relative maintenance and repairs (desirable)
- Full UK driving license.
