If you are a natural communicator with experience of applying your skills to internal communications and staff engagement, this opportunity at the University of Kent could be an exciting next step in your career.

You will join the Communications Team, bringing your talent for understanding the stories and content that can generate a positive sense of community among our staff and your natural strength in relationship-building and networking.

The role will lead our activity in this area, taking an innovative and proactive approach to internal comms campaigns that showcase what it means to work at the University while also working closely with decision-makers and key colleagues at a senior level to support their communication needs.

As Staff Communications Manager you will:

work with the Head of Communications to shape and implement an effective staff communications and engagement strategy, built round the varied voices of our staff;
lead on the improvement and development of our internal comms channels, ensuring we can present a range of compelling content and allow for two-way engagement wherever possible;
work collaboratively with colleagues across the University to source stories with real impact, showcasing the best of what we do and helping generate a positive sense of community.

To be successful in this role you will have:

a degree in a relevant field and a relevant professional qualification OR significant relevant work experience at a similar level;
relevant internal staff communications and engagement experience including development of a wide range of content for different audiences;
excellent verbal and written communication skills, including clear and effective facilitation and presentation skills and the ability to produce clear, concise and compelling comms materials.

The Communications Team strive to build the University's reputation through multi-channel, mixed media campaigns that set out a compelling narrative based on our Kent 2025 strategy. Working across press, social media and internal comms, the team lead on communications with key local, national and international audiences, ensuring clear and consistent messages are delivered in creative and dynamic ways to help make the University stand out in a crowded market.
