A rare opportunity has arisen for a Head of Maintenance to join the University of Kent’s Estates Maintenance and Technical Support Team. In this senior level role you will be responsible for the delivery of Electrical, Mechanical and Building Fabric maintenance, as well as Landscape and Grounds Management across the estate. You will be required to think with broad approaches within your specialist area and are likely to encounter complex and challenging problems.

As a key professional FM/technical expert for the Estates Department you will feel confident applying your experience and knowledge to devise solutions to complex issues, using a creative approach and taking into account legislation and environmental issues when making decisions.

As Head of Maintenance you will:

Take responsibility for the current and future maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, building, high-risk areas and site infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the University.
Take responsibility for compliance with Procurement and Financial regulations and budgets.
Ensure maintenance and grounds contracts are in place for key service areas and have been procured correctly.
Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance in relation to the University’s physical estate and engineering assets to avoid significant legal and financial costs and health and safety implications.

Be instrumental in the development and ongoing delivery of all planned and reactive works ensuring KPIs are met.

To be successful in this role you will have/be:

Extensive experience and relevant technical knowledge of building services, grounds and facilities management, their technologies and their impact on the work environment in a complex technical environment.

It is essential that the successful candidate is part of an on call rota and able to respond to and deal with building/electrical/mechanical emergencies and issues outside normal working hours, attending site as required. An annual allowance of £2,200 is paid for this, on a monthly basis. The current rota requires the Head of Maintenance to be on call one week in five (including weekends/bank holidays/closure days) but this is subject to change to cover sickness or other absence.
