This post is based across Maidstone and Canterbury, Kent and Medway.

We are seeking an internationally recognised Professor of Psychiatry to contribute to research and teaching within the medical school and as a nexus of research collaboration across the healthcare system of Kent and Medway.

This is a joint appointment with Kent & Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT). 60% of the role will be spent under an honorary contract with the Trust, four sessions as Director of Research and Innovation, plus two clinical sessions to be negotiated with the successful candidate. Clinical opportunities may be available across all clinical professions and we encourage informal discussions regarding these.

The post presents an exciting opportunity to deliver an innovative and integrated research programme in mental health and to make an important strategic contribution to KMPT, the medical school and the partner universities.

To make your mark in this influential role you must be suitably qualified and an experienced senior clinician, with a bibliography of research publications and an established reputation in your field, along with an innovative and co-operative approach that matches our own.

As Professor of Psychiatry you will:

undertake, publish and communicate original research of international quality, ensuring that co-production and patient and public engagement is a core element
deliver high-quality teaching to undergraduate BM BS students in KMMS, including developing and delivering curriculum content
provide strong professional and clinical research and innovation leadership, contributing to building a research culture in KMMS and KMPT
oversee the Research and Innovation department at KMPT and support the implementation of the Research Strategy
To succeed in this role you will have:

professional clinical registration with the relevant body
doctorate level training or a higher degree involving R&I methods training
outstanding and sustained national and international contributions to the advancement of your subject through research activity
experience in postgraduate or undergraduate teaching
experience of conducting R&I with people with mental health problems
experience as a senior clinician and significant experience of working with people with mental health problems
Prospective candidates are encouraged to visit the medical school, which may be arranged by contacting Professor Chris Holland, Founding Dean of KMMS, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (dean@kmms.ac.uk) and KMPT, which may be arranged by contacting Dr Afifa Qazi, Executive Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist (EA: Catharine.blackman@nhs.net)

This is an exciting time to join KMPT, rated Outstanding for Caring and Good overall in our most recent CQC inspection in late 2018. The Trust provides specialist mental health care to the people of Kent and Medway through award winning services and has ambitious plans to become an exemplar in Research and Quality Improvement.

KMMS opened to our first cohort of 108 pioneer students in September 2020. Our vision is to create a new medical school for Kent and Medway that becomes a beacon for first-class medical education and research.
