Brompton Academy, part of The University of Kent Academies Trust, is seeking to appoint an experienced, motivated and committed individual to the role of SEN Officer to commence as soon as possible. This role is full-time, term time plus staff development days and is being offered on a permanent basis.

You will be providing efficient and high-quality comprehensive casework management and administrative support to ensure the effectiveness of the UKAT Special Educational Needs Service and SEN Team.

To be successful in this role, you will have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) together with an ability to empathise and understand other people’s positions.

The successful candidate will have a good level of education to level 3 (A-level or equivalent), excellent administration experience and proven knowledge and experience of the SEND Code of Practice.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide high quality written and oral communication with parents/ carers and
a range of professionals, including: UKAT staff, Educational Psychologists,
Medical Officers, Social Workers and LA Officer.
2. Arrange, attend and minute meetings as required.
3. Provide excellent information to appropriate UKAT team members to ensure
that the Trust fully understands the perspective, interests and starting point of
the various parties involved in a case.
4. Act as the key contact point and conduit for UKAT SENCOs, UKAT MIS Data,
Trust designated SEN Trustee, LA SEN officers and Parents/ Carers/
Families.
5. Deal with the Trust’s statutory obligations in relation to the collection,
collation, drafting and provision of all SEN reports and data for EHCPs,
PCARs and PEPS for LACs, tribunals, necessary for providing and achieving
the best outcomes for students.
6. Established administrative procedures for the regular monitoring and review
of students PCARs and PEPS
7. Monitoring the progress of young people with EHCP plans.
8. Attending Annual Reviews as appropriate. Supporting and coordinating
Transfer reviews
9. Liaise with other authorities in relation to Looked After Children ensuring all
documentation is provided to the appropriate authority within prescribed
timescales.
10. Building and fostering relationships - work in partnership with children, young
people and families
11. Have an open, professional relationship with the family, child/young person,
schools, professionals and other agencies.
12. Ensure views and concerns are clearly understood
13. To promote the participation and involvement of children, young other
meetings, including preparing and updating documents relevant for the
meeting.
14. Supporting and co-ordinating the work of the Trusts Professionals panel in
determining the provisions/ support to be provided for individual students and
groups of students.
15. Attending annual reviews / PCARs
16. Responding to first enquiries from parents/carers, speaking to previous
schools, social care and other service providers including NHS and private/
independent therapists
17. Maintain and update on a regular basis, the information held on the SEN
service files and databases and to retrieve data and produce management
information reports as required
18. Taking calls from transport providers
19. Through good telephone communication establish parent/ carer confidence,
positive working relationships and trust in the academy.
20. Maintain up to date knowledge relating to SEN casework, including changes
to national legislation and departmental policies
