Access Tutor - Science (Uni Connect)

Are you able to contribute to the ongoing development of a new and effective Access strand aimed at young people? Do you have experience of teaching post-16 learners in Further Education, Higher Education or 6th form?

If you are ready to help meet challenging KaMCOP targets to engage young people and encourage them to consider and participate in higher education, this opportunity could be for you! This programme at the University of Kent sits within a new accredited outreach progression framework and alongside Kent’s existing Access provision.

Applications are now welcome for our Access Tutor – Science (Uni Connect) for a fixed term until 31 July 2021, offering an opportunity for the role to be undertaken either part time (FTE to be negotiated with the successful candidate) or full time basis only if the successful candidate is able to teach both Biology and Chemistry.

As Access Tutor – Science you will:

- develop and deliver teaching of a wide range of community based learning, which leads to the successful completion of the Access to Higher Education Diploma
- take the lead for one subject area within the curriculum to ensure the successful delivery, assessment and monitoring of that area
- support the staff development of sessional tutors with regard open access teaching, as necessary
- work closely with the University of Kent at Medway staff to support the development of flexible progression routes in the Medway towns

To succeed in this role you will have:

- first degree or equivalent
- experience of creating and assessing level 3 assignments in a relevant subject discipline, e.g. A-level, Access and/or BTEC qualifications
- subject knowledge within Science – preferably Biology and/or Chemistry – with a degree of subject specialism
- an intermediate level of ICT skills and a good level of numeracy

The Partnership Development Office is responsible for supporting the implementation of the University’s widening participation strategy and for developing partnerships in the region, with a particular focus on sub-regional partnerships, in support of this strategy. The Partnership Development Office is part of the Marketing, Outreach, Recruitment and Admissions Division (MORA).
