Engagement and Wellbeing Learning Mentor

Actual salary: £15,447 - £17,744 based on Term Time + 1 week (FTE: £18,426 - £21,166)

Rochester, Kent

The Hundred of Hoo School

Want an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people? Being an Engagement and Wellbeing Learning Mentor takes bravery, patience and if you are committed to providing a first class education experience, then we want to hear from you.

About the role: We have a rare opportunity for an Engagement and Wellbeing Learning Mentor to join our team at The Hundred of Hoo Academy in December 2019. Your role would be to promote wellbeing, help pupils overcome barriers to learning and to encourage the student to gain a clearer understanding of their potential. The right candidate needs to be able to respond positively to change in order to meet the needs of students and help make a significant contribution to their achievement. It will require someone who is calm and who makes good decisions in the face of challenges and problems. We are looking for a candidate that can also establish a good sense of discipline and positive relationship with young people, by recognising that they need clear boundaries, structure and routine to thrive. You will ensure that there is a calm, well ordered learning environment for all pupils.

The Learning Support Unit is the Academy’s seclusion provision which works with young people that need additional support, or time to reflect away from others, to re-engage positively in their learning and behaviour towards adults or their peers. This is an opportunity to make a real difference to pupils that often have experienced difficulties or are experiencing challenges in their lives which mean they need additional support in re-engaging in school in a positive way. This role can have a huge impact on the continued successful development, both socially and academically of our young people.

Whilst full training will be offered when in post, our successful candidate will have prior experience of working in a similar capacity directly with young people at a secondary level, offering an empathetic and restorative outlook for the benefit of the students.

The working basis of this role is 37 hours per week, Term Time + 1 week inset; this is ideal for those who are keen to keep school holidays free or who are considering a future career in teaching.

Working with our academy: The Hundred of Hoo Academy is a unique all through academy with pupils from Reception up to Sixth Form, and whilst this role supports the entire academy, it is most likely the successful candidate will work with pupils aged 11-16 on a daily basis. In September 2011, The Hundred of Hoo converted to academy status. Just one year later, Ofsted judged the academy as “good with outstanding features” recognising the relentless focus and ambition that we have. In September 2015 the academy welcomed its first Reception class thereby extending its age range to 4-year-old children. This exciting provision demonstrates the academy’s sense of ambition to serve the community where pupils’ academic journey represents a cradle to university principle.

We are delighted to announce that following a recent Ofsted inspection in July 2018 the academy has been judged 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features in terms of our early years provision and effectiveness of leadership and management.

Working with Leigh Academies Trust: As of September 2019, our Trust is comprised of 25 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 13 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff. We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open between September 2020-2021. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and add to - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

All roles within the Trust are subject to an Enhanced DBS check in addition to other pre-employment checks.
