Rough Sleeper Worker - Supporting vulnerable women

£21,837 - £24,610 gross per annum

Folkestone, Kent

Porchlight

About us: We are passionate about helping vulnerable people to reach their full potential. We strive for a fairer society where vulnerable people find stability, the most excluded are included, and where homelessness and poverty are things of the past.

The role: Kent has one of the highest percentages of female homelessness in the country. But all too often many homelessness support services – including our own – have been designed predominantly for men and do not meet the very specific needs of women.

After carrying out research into female homelessness, Porchlight has decided to improve the support available to female rough sleepers.

You will be focused on supporting homeless women who are sleeping rough and have complex needs that make them find it difficult to accept help.

Your job is to earn their trust and help them take the steps to leave the streets behind. You will also help them address issues that led to their homelessness, and direct them to other forms of help if needed.

There will be a requirement to do outreach work that starts in the early morning.

This role requires:

A patient and compassionate approach to supporting people who have been homeless for years and find it difficult to accept help.
Specialist knowledge of assisting rough sleepers who experience issues related mental health and / or substance misuse.
A passion for helping people in difficult circumstances.
Good administrative skills
The ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

Benefits: As a Porchlight employee, you will have access to a wide range of benefits including free life insurance, 25 days holiday per year (increasing to 30 days after five years’ service) and the Porchlight pension scheme.
